Over the past decades studies keep showing the beneficial role of diversity for businesses and organizations. Big companies are investing thousands of dollars in an effort to build a diverse workforce and implement inclusive practices inside their organizations. Nevertheless, results from this have not come fast enough. Numbers still don’t show enough women and people from all different ethnic, racial and cultural backgrounds represented across all levels in any given organization despite us knowing the benefits of diverse teams.
Research compiled by the Center for Talent Innovation shows that companies with diverse employees and leaders are 45 percent more likely to grow market share over the previous year and 70 percent more likely to capture a new market. As the authors put it, “When a team has traits in common with the end user, the entire team better understands that user. A team with a member who shares a client’s ethnicity is 152 percent likelier than another team to understand that client.”
Diverse teams in general continuously prove to be smarter and more creative. Working with people different from ourselves makes us more receptive to different points of view and more open to discuss things constructively. This results in us working harder to have a broader understanding of the topic at hand.
We’re lucky at YouNoodle to have such a diverse team. Truth of the matter is, diversity for us is not an option. It’s a necessity. And it’s something we’ve come to love and embrace as one of our company values. We have global clients and we help them run international innovation and startup programs. In order to understand our clients needs and host global programs we need to be diverse ourselves. We have people from different racial, ethnic, national and religious backgrounds. We have a 50/50 percentage of men and women reflected at all company levels. Entrepreneurs coming from all over the world apply to hundreds of programs on our platform, and we try make it easy for people around the world by offering our platform in multiple languages.
We know that one of the driving engines behind innovation and disruption is a diverse mindset. Noodling outside the box. Thinking different.  Awesome ideas come from creative and passionate people. In order for us to truly serve a global cause, we’ve learned that a diverse team is key.
